
Choirs
The Cathedral has two principal choirs who sing at the Sunday liturgies. The Cathedral Choristers sing at the 9:00 AM service and the Cathedral Choir sings at the 11:00 AM service. The Cathedral Chamber Choir, a smaller ensemble of more experienced musicians drawn from the Cathedral Choir, assists at many services and occasionally visits parishes throughout the Diocese of the Rio Grande. The Cathedral Choirs always seek new voices and welcome singers of any level or tradition of faith practice. Cathedral Choir
The Cathedral Choir is recognized as one of the finest choral ensembles in the region. In addition to Sunday morning responsibilities, the Cathedral Choir sings for monthly services of Choral Evensong, on major feasts, participates in the Cathedral Commissions program, participates in community outreach collaborative concerts with the New Mexico Philharmonic at times, and is well-known for their internationally released recordings with Raven CD.
Tours form an important part of the Cathedral Choir's evangelism to the greater musical and liturgical community. The Cathedral Choir has sung in such presitigious venues as Saint Thomas' Church, Fifth Avenue, New York City, Washington National Cathedral, St. George's Chapel, Windsor, Canterbury Cathedral, St. Paul's Cathedral, London, Southwark Cathedral, London and York Minster. The next international tour is scheduled for late July-early August 2014 where they will be in residence at Winchester Cathedral and Westminster Abbey for week-long residencies in each venue.
Rehearsals for the Cathedral Choir take place on Tuesdays, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, although there are occasional additional commitments. Cathedral Chamber Choir
The Cathedral Chamber Choir is a group who specialize in contemporary works and music written for small ensembles. The size and singers of the Chamber Choir is flexible, depending on the repertoire being performed. The members are drawn primarily from the Cathedral Choir but also include guest singers. Cathedral Choristers
The Cathedral Chorister program offers to children ages 7-16 a unique musical experience working with other children in preparation and weekly performance of the finest choral music written for children's voices. Choristers form friendships with other music-loving children from Albuquerque and beyond. They receive expert instruction in music-reading and ensemble performance skills, and enjoy educational excursions to concerts of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles. An annual week-long summer program and participation in summer courses of the Royal School of Church Music throughout the USA is encouraged and also form an important part of the program. Auditions for the Chorister program take place throughout the year. Cathedral Cherubs
A new program beginning in the Fall of 2012, the Cathedral Cherubs program offers young children from the ages of 3-6 a firm grounding in music and singing. They also have the opportunity to participate in occasional services throughout the liturgical season and it is hoped they will progress to the Cathedral Chorister program. They rehearse Tuesday evenings 5::45-6:15pm and Sunday mornings 8:20-8:50 am. Cherubs and Choristers receive expert instruction in music-reading and ensemble performance skills from internationally renowned educators and musicians.
Cherubs and Choristers train through the Royal School of Church Music, an internationally based music program which holds summer courses across the country: www.rscmamerica.org.
Cherubs and Choristers have monthly social outings which include attending choral and instrumental concerts, bowling, pizza parties and more, organized by the supportive parents group.
