Hospitality

The ministry of hospitality is practiced as St. John's in several ways. On Sundays, greeters from the congregation, as well as the clergy, keep an eye out for newcomers. In addition to welcoming them personally, they encourage newcomers to fill out a visitor's card. A welcoming letter is mailed to newcomers the next day and the names are added to a list in order to be invited to a newcomers' reception at a private home where they have an opportunity to meet a small group of parishioners and to learn more about the Cathedral.

The doors of the Cathedral House are open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. The church is open for prayer and the facilities of the parish are available to various groups and individuals. There are several meetings each week of Alcoholics Anonymous and there are service groups and others who use the meeting spaces of the parish from time to time. There are two noontime music series in the course of the year which include a simple lunch and are open to the public.

The large hallway connecting the first floor rooms of the Cathedral House is known as The Gallery. This unique ministry provides a showcase for local artists who submit their work to juried exhibitions that are open to the public during the open hours of the Cathedral House. Art works in many different media are displayed and are available for purchase, with a commission from all sales going to support the work of the Cathedral. The volunteer Gallery Guild oversees this particular ministry of the Cathedral.
